Project Summary

The project involved the supply and installation of 14 Q45H/62-63 Chlorine Monitors to ensure a more cost-effective way to guarantee chlorine levels inside London’s 80-kilometer Ring Main were correct. The previous equipment had been in use since the Ring Main opened in 1994 and was costly to maintain, with lots of parts to service and replace.

Project Scope

  • Supply of chlorine monitors
  • Install of panels
  • Calibration and commissioning
  • Training

Added Value/Benefits

Before fitting the new equipment, Thames Water tested it for a year, comparing results with the existing kit. They found it gave the same readings but involved much less maintenance, therefore allowing thousands of pounds of savings a year in maintenance costs. The old equipment used a ‘buffer solution’ which acted as an electrolyte – a liquid that conducts electricity – and this had to be pumped into the analyser. The new equipment uses only a minimal amount of electrolyte, so pumps aren't needed.

  • Thousands of pounds worth of annual maintenance cost savings
  • No pumps needed
