4-Electrode Conductivity Monitor

The 4-Electrode conductivity monitor provides a solution to nearly any water-based process such as drinking water, cooling water, process wash water, or any other aqueous system that needs to be monitored accurately and reliably.

How a 4-Electrode Sensor Works:

In a traditional 4-electrode sensor, each electrode performs two functions:

1.       The electrodes are used to generate a “drive potential” through the aqueous solution

2.       The electrodes are used to measure the level of current flow as the conductivity of the solution varies

How a 4-Electrode Sensor Works:

The 4-electrode sensor splits the two functions normally seen in a tradition 4-electrode sensor between the two sets of electrodes. The other set of electrodes are used to measure the current flowing between the two drive electrodes.

Features and Benefits of a 4-electrode Sensor:

  • With the separate functions, a 4-electrode sensor does not suffer the polarisation effects that limit a 2-electrode sensor to a narrow functional range – allowing a 4-electrode sensor to reliably operate over the entire 0-2 S/cm conductivity range
  • Excellent resistance to electrode coatings that can cause decreased accuracy. Any changes in electrode condition are compensated for – even partially fouled sensors can continue to provide accurate measurements. In the event that the sensor needs cleaning, the monitor provides an alert and displays a “fouled sensor” warning.

It would normally require at least three 2-electrode sensors with increasing cell constants to achieve what a single 4-electrode sensor could accomplish.

  • Response Time: 6 seconds to 90% of step input at lowest setting
